A Little Personal History
Necessity, and 12 years as a novice and monk in Chiang Mia, temporarily interrupted my practice but early 2009 brought a renewed interest in watercolour and my first formal training in Bangkok.
Upon returning to Chiang Mai in 2010 I began studying under renowned local artist Ajarn Thanakorn Chaijinda.
Worawuth has been running his own gallery since he opened ‘Worawuth’s Watercolour Studio’ a small space, in February 2013. In November 2015 he opened “The Three Owls Gallery”, a much larger gallery in the centre of Chiang Mai.
2017 was a great year with both the gallery becoming more successful, and a large increase in the number of students wishing to study with him. The year finished on a high note with a painting trip to Myanmar in the company of a group of renowned national Thai watercolour artists based in Chiang Rai.
Summer 2018 saw Worawuth in the UK on a personal painting tour. Click to see excerpts from his sketchbook for this tour.

A unique and imposing watercolour of substantial dimensions - including its frame, it is over 6ft wide. Worawuth worked for several weeks on the painting. The planning of the composition started over a month in advance of the painting and the paper, due to its size, required pre-ordering from Europe.

Its popular name, Wat Jet Yod, comes from the seven-spired chedi (Jet Yod = seven spired) in which are buried the ashes of King Tilokalaga. This king chose this site for a wat in 1455 and planted a bhodi tree, said to be taken from bhodi tree in Ceylon.
